What was life like in medieval Southampton ? 
Enclosed within the walls was a town crowded with merchants, craftsmen, sailors, the air full of languages from France, the Low Countries, Spain and Italy. Wool poured out through the port, and luxuries goods poured in.
The merchants lavished their wealth on magnificent houses, the corporation on great warehouses, and trade halls, but it was also a time of disease and the Black Death entered England through the port of Southampton
